Sollers Consulting at the „InsurHack“hackathon in Cologne

Last weekend 30 interdisciplinary teams formed of developers, designers and programmers competed against each other at the RheinEnergie-Stadion in Cologne. The competition set out to see which team could set up the best software and business solution within 48 hours. The best contributions were rewarded by a jury of experts with prizes worth 75,000 EUR.

For the first time, this innovative event was arranged by the Zurich Group Germany, supported by Sollers Consulting as a partner.

The event started on Friday evening after a “Meet&Greet”. The second day consisted of the main event as well as various other activities like workshops, lectures and sporting activities. Furthermore, there were side events such as soccer tables, a shoot-out goal, spinning bikes and massage chairs. On Sunday, after a hard weekend, the results were presented to the jury and the CEO of Zurich Insurance Germany.

The first place was achieved by the “Hacker Mates” team, which set up a learning algorithm that analyses incoming customer emails and proposes automatically personalised insurance products to the customer. The winning team was rewarded with 50,000 EUR, followed by the teams “Control Experts” (20,000 EUR) and “Fizzy” (5,000 EUR).

On the closing “GetTogether” there were many tired, but happy faces visible.

It was interesting to get in touch with young talents and observe how they faced this extraordinary challenge. Judges were particularly impressed by the participants’ innovative approaches and their achievements regarding the API.
